For the past couple of weeks Room 6 has been learning about our solar system. My partner Paula and I have been looking for facts about the planet Mercury.
Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system.
It is the planet that is the closest to the sun. It is the fastest planet to orbit around the sun.It is 58M Km from the sun.
My partner and I painted a round polystyrene ball to represent the planet Mercury. We used black and white paint to create a grey colour which is the colour of Mercury.
We had fun doing this project and we also learned a lot about the planets in our solar system.

2 weeks ago we learnt how to write a Haiku poem. The Haiku poem was professionally formed in Japan. There are 3 lines -line 1 has 5 syllables, Line 2 is 7 syllables and Line 3 is 5 syllables. I had so much fun writing mine.
Kick legs in water
Handstand and doggy paddle
Swimming is awesome.
Last Friday we celebrated mission day so it was mufti day. Mission day means that we fund raise for the kids in India holy angels which is an orphanage.
At the start we went to church and there was a new priest he was telling about mission day and what it was about. After church we went back to school and started to get ready. My group was the first group to start fishing so people came to our shop to play and win prizes.
After that we went to shop from other stalls. The first game I went to was this game where you throw balls at cups to win candy and chocolate. Then I bought some candy for 50c and ate it.
Then I played other fun games then packed up the stalls and went back to class. Then we got the sugages for lunch then played. We also watched a movie after the break.
At the end of the day we did the raffle then said prayers then went home. I was so happy I had a lovely day.I wish it could be the same next time.

Last Thursday, Room 6 and 7 did cycling lessons at school. We changed into our PE gear and when the bell went we walked down to the bottom court.
Our instructors were Stephanie and Lucy. At the start they introduced themselves and then we learned the 6 main things to check on a bike. They are: A for air, B for brakes, C for chain, D for direction, another D for drop test and Q for quick release lever 3x- wheels and under the seat.
Finally we were given helmets and a bike. I wasn’t confident so I went to the top court. I had to use both my feet to scoot along and get my balance. After that I had to scoot and then count to 3 before stopping. Then I had to scoot and glide by lifting my feet off the ground.
After morning tea I felt confident and went cycling on the top court with the others. I loved the whole day.

Yesterday St Patrick’s went to a Rippa rugby tournament at Dunkirk park. We arrived at school at 8:15Am and left at 8:45Am. I took my mouth guard, my lunch, water bottle and more.
Two teams we versed were Stanhope Road and Pt England. I scored some tries I scored two against one team then I scored more against others and my total tries were 6 over the whole day. We played 4 games.
At the start I was exhilarated but in the end it was a different level. I was so exhausted and could barely walk but I had so much fun. I hope I get into the team again next year.

Have you ever heard of the word Olympic games? Where and when did it all start?
The Olympic games started in 776 BC which means before Christ was born. It was held mount Olympia in Athens Greece. The modern Olympics that we know today started in 1896. The purpose of the Olympics is to bring people together from around the world for a peaceful and friendly competition through sports.
This year the Olympics are being held in Paris. Its started on the 26 of July and ends on 11 of August 2024. My class has been studying about the different kinds of sports and the athletes from different countries. I choose to research about an athlete from my own country, New Zealand. His name is Leroy Carter. He was born in Tauranga and his sport is rugby sevens. We also learnt about an artist called Keith Haring and his amazing Olympic art. He started drawing when he was little. He became famous for his art work.
I enjoyed learning about the different sports competitions at the Olympics and I watched some events on TV .
